One of Louisiana's two U.S. senators, who vote on federal legislation, confirm presidential nominees and approve treaties.
6-year term. Open seat: no incumbent is running. Regular election for the full term beginning January 2027. In 2026 Louisiana used closed party primaries for U.S. Senate for the first time. Incumbent Republican Bill Cassidy finished third in the May 16 Republican primary. Julia Letlow won the June 27 Republican runoff over State Treasurer John Fleming, and Jamie Davis won the June 27 Democratic runoff over Gary Crockett. Davis and Letlow automatically qualified for November as party nominees, and KNOE's list of qualified candidates and Ballotpedia show no other Senate candidates; Ballotpedia lists unaffiliated candidate Jamie LaBranche as withdrawn or disqualified.

Jamie Davis
Farmer and owner, Davis Farms (Tensas Parish); former Tensas Parish Police JurorJames "Jamie" Davis Jr. is a Democrat, a third-generation row-crop farmer and small-business owner in Tensas Parish, and a former member of the Tensas Parish Police Jury. He won the Democratic nomination in a June 2026 runoff and is campaigning on affordability, health care access, jobs and wages, and rural communities.
Julia Letlow
U.S. Representative, Louisiana's 5th Congressional District (since 2021)Julia Letlow is a Republican who has represented Louisiana's 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House since 2021, when she won a special election after the death of her husband, Luke, who had been elected to the seat. Before Congress she worked in higher education at the University of Louisiana Monroe and Tulane University. She won the Republican nomination in a June 2026 runoff and is campaigning on border security, lowering costs, parents' rights in education and domestic energy production.
