Key dates
- Mon, October 5, 2026: Regular voter registration closesCloses at 5 p.m., 30 days before the election.
- Tue, October 6, 2026: Late registration beginsEligible residents can still register or update their registration at their county election office through Election Day, but must then get their ballot in person.
- Fri, October 9, 2026: Absentee ballots sentCounties mail absentee ballots 25 days before the election; voters can also apply and pick up a ballot at the county election office.
- Mon, November 2, 2026: Absentee ballot application deadlineApplications must be received by the county election office by noon.
- Tue, November 3, 2026: Election DayPolls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time (state law lets some small precincts open later). Absentee ballots must be received at the county election office or a polling place by 8 p.m.; a postmark is not enough. The state recommends mailing ballots at least a week early.
