Key dates

  • Sat, September 19, 2026: Early voting begins
    Early voting begins 45 days before the election, or as soon as your town or city clerk has ballots. You can vote early in person at the clerk's office during business hours.
  • Thu, October 1, 2026: Mail ballots sent to all active voters
    The state mails a General Election ballot to every active registered voter by Oct. 1, with no request needed. Voters should receive ballots in the first half of October; contact your town or city clerk if yours has not arrived by mid-October.
  • Mon, November 2, 2026: Last day to return a ballot to your clerk's office
    Mailed or hand-delivered ballots must reach your town or city clerk's office before it closes on the day before the election. After that, bring your ballot to your polling place before 7 p.m. on Election Day.
  • Tue, November 3, 2026: Election Day
    Polls open between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., depending on the town, and close at 7 p.m. statewide. Vermont has same-day registration: you can register at your polling place on Election Day. Voted ballots can be returned at your polling place until 7 p.m.
