Key dates
- Sun, May 3, 2026: Absentee ballot requests openApplications are accepted starting six months before the election. Absentee voting requires a qualifying reason, such as being out of town on Election Day, a disability or illness, a religious observance, or an employment or caregiving commitment.
- Mon, November 2, 2026: Last day to request an absentee ballotClerks mail absentee ballots for requests received by 12:00 p.m. on this day. You can request an absentee ballot in person at your town or city clerk's office until 5:00 p.m.
- Tue, November 3, 2026: Election DayPolling hours vary by town; check the Secretary of State's polling place lookup. You can register to vote at your polling place on Election Day with proof of identity, age, citizenship and domicile. Before the election, registration with your town or city clerk closes 6 to 13 days ahead, depending on the town. Absentee ballots returned by mail or by a delivery agent must be received by the clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Election Day.
